A popular place for visitors to frequent is the Teleferico, a cable car that takes you to the top of Mt. Pichincha, one of the Mountains that surrounds the city of Quito.
Of course we took the boys up to experience the invigorating ride up (not actually that exciting...) and view the magnificent view below of the length of the city.
Now, I have gone up there about 8 times in the 2 years+ that I've lived here, and not once has it been clear enough to hike around. The altitude puts you high enough to be in the clouds, so unless it's a pretty clear day, the afternoons fog up pretty quickly and it gets extremely cold.
Anywho, this time we left early and it paid off. Clear skies all morning!
We took advantage of the good weather by hiking up a little ways and renting horses to take us a bit further to the mouth of the Volcano. Ok, we didn't really go to the mouth, but we saw it from afar and heard a story about its mythological history.
We recently watched Man from Snowy River.
OK, on to the market. I'll just post some pics for now. Not much to say really about the market that I haven't said in previous posts, including one just a few weeks ago. It's the country's headquarters for Alpaca items. Blankets, sweaters, mittens, socks, etc. can be found at great prices here at the market. It is a city (town?) of Kichwa speakers. The women and men's attire is very distint and they are very proud of the their culture and handicrafts.

Boys and their journals... "Dear diary...I have so much to tell you..."
I thought Sean should have bought this shirt. He did not.
It was on our way home from the market that I met the man on the bus. (experience to right under "service experience of the week")
Also, Hannah had an interesting conversation with the youngster she sat next to as well. Perhaps she will she that next...

Hike up the mountain looks so wonderful. Risky if the clouds hover too low:) What a productive, fascinating life style you have down there. Great way to spend your youth.
