Random Pictures and Comments

For some unknown reason, I seem to be in a blog-posting mode this month. I want to post a few random pictures that we've taken in the past few months, not really relating to anything.

Today, we did a strange take on service. One of our Canadian friends has her parents and cousin visiting this month, and we wanted to show them the Ciclo via, which is the bike trail that runs through the valley. We decided to walk the Ciclo via from Tumbaco to Cumbaya to the coffee shop. We talked to people resting all along the track , and with construction workers, and placed tracks to people who had no time to chat. Of all the people we talked to, only one declined a tract. The whole way there is like a Botanical Garden. I didn't bring my camera, but you can see pictures of it on our Bike Ride post. Although this time, we actually went in the opposite direction, which is even prettier and more tropical. I got a good return visit with a women who works at one of the rest stops along the way. It tooks us 2 hours to walk to the coffee shop in Cumbay and as it was a very hot day, it was definitely the light at the end of our tunnel. There we were met by a few others in true American Coffee-Break fashion. A very nice day, although the conversation was complicated; it was a confusing mix of Spanish and French with a little English thrown in. Peux-tu mettre ces oeufs pourris dans la poubelle s'il te plait?

On the work front, in my attempts to get a work visa, I've had to interview at a number of different schools and English Institutes. I've had two offers so far, but had to turn them both down. One because of the bad schedule, and the other because they could not help me with the work visa. I finally went to the Wall Street Institute on Tuesday, which is here in Tumbaco and looked very promising. Well afer taking 2 hours of tests, they said they would send my results to corporate and I'd hear back in 2-3 weeks. No interview or personal contact at all. But I scored a tier 3 on my test, which is very high, so I hope they will call.

Well, that's all the news for this week. Enjoy the pics.

Emilee and Ana Paula

Ivan, a friend from a neighboring congregation takes on a big coffee

Diego, correcting my talk before I give it. (Well, he tried to, but couldn't find any errors. It was hilarious how hard he tried to find one though.)

Hannah's return visit in Otavalo, a 3 hour bus ride away. Far from our territory, but they became friends the first time we visited the market, and the women remembered Hannah from the time before, as Hannah had left a magazine with her. Hannah was chased down by the women, who insisted that she pick a piece of jewelry from the table for free. Sweet!

Who remembers Guillermo? 20 points to the person who can tell me what looks different about him in this picture from before.

A night on the town, at a cute hole in the wall restaurant in Old Town Quito while me mom was here (obviously) with Danny and Dennis.

Thanks for all the pics. Your such a qwuever wittle witer. Gearimo had a white face and wasnt such a midget. I saw the look in Ronalds eye when you were sitting on his lap and I don't think you should see him again. If only those house maids wouldn't r u n n o f t you might really have some help worth keeping around.
Fun stuff
Bye for now,

I noticed the ‘to go’ cups at Juan Valdez. Score!
Your knitting party picture is now my background. Although Elsie & Ronald are waiting in line. BTW, I’d like to borrow your house maid . He looks mighty handy. Cute, too! Does he cook?

What kind of dancing are you learning the spins for? You will have to teach us all when you get back. Sorry I haven't written for awhile as Dave has the bedroom with computer. He goes to bed so early (8pm) to get up at 3am. So all my after hours time is curtailed. Grandmother sends you her love, just talked to her for an hr1/2. She is doing OK. Dave went shopping for her today so she is happy as a clam with all the food. I'll have to print her some of your pictures. What a fun way to go in service with the reward midway (coffee!!!). Miss you guys lots. Couldn't see the moving pics when your mom came over as I have no Wifi. So will look forward to it later. We had tea and the cream from a box that you guys use and it was fun. Thought of you the whole time. Keep up the good work and oh! Hanna I loved the pic of the older lady at the market. Well thats all for now. Love and miss you
